My 2 year old TC33 battery is leaking acid all over the place. Any options other than the same thing. A gel would be nice being they cant leak. Case size is 8" tall, 5" deep, 9" wide...thanks

There was considerable discussion on the subject earlier. Gel batteries are termed generally in the business as valve regulated lead acid batteries. The are sold in two types, with silica gel as the separator and with glass mat as the separator.
The resistance to low discharge, no acid spillage, self discharge and general abuse is inherent in both battery types, but the glass mat tends to be a little better for physical abuse as the gel can move slightly with hard impacts allowing the plates to contact.
Within the glass mat batteries rolled plates and flat plates are sold. The rolled plates tend to have greater CCA (cold cranking amps) per weight as the surface area of the plates in larger. They are also thinner therefore the low discharge resistance tends to be lower.
Many of the battery manufactures sell these types of batteries, GNB, East Penn. Manufacturing, JCI and Exide. Although the manufactures are few the selling names numberous. Some names such as Interstate, Sears Diehard follow the lowest price. For conservative practices and fairly good reputation, I would recommend going with the number 1 OEM (original equipment manufacture) for heavy trucks and equipment, East Penn. aka Dekka batteries.

Manual calls it a group 45 but I am having a tough time matching it up with a DEKA. Would love to buy Deka since they are made 30min away. Sealed lead acid looks like the way to go as someone said that GEls dont the have the starting power. They are more of a Deep cycle battery... The DEKA grp45 is too big...Can anyone post what brand and model of a Sealed battery they put in a Boomer?....thanks ....

I think of gel batteries as deep cycle. Perhaps the original leaking battery is just a bad one. Try a new conventional battery. I also buy batteries from DEKA. They are not too far away and their discounted 'blem' batteries are a good buy. Lately I have tried Wal-Mart batteries for the last year and they have been fine. No leaks or corrosion around the terminals. The Wal-Mart price is just about the same as the DEKA blem price. ....

I've also heard the stories about the gels not having the ability of the traditional wet batteries, but that hasn't been my experience. I use the rolled mat type of round cell gel battery in everything I run. Tractors and diesel trucks both. The battery I like best used to be made by Optima and is their "red top" type. Lots of companies now make them. The Optima "yellow top" is their deep charge type, but I've had better performance out of the less expensive red tops. Even the red tops are costly. I don't think I've seen them for less than about $100. ....

I had a leaky Boomer battery. Now run a Gel meant for a wheel chair/Jazzy chair-with my stock cables. The CCA on true gels isn't given on some and some battery dealers will steer you away from gels for diesels saying they wont crank. Mine has been fine for 12 nonths now- worked at 20deg F...

I seem to be boosting the archives this morning. Well, its thundering and I probably have to be quick to get off the computer. There's some very good information about batteries in the archives. Peters especially contributed good information. There's also are long discussions about venting and battery position.
I think that as long as the amp hour and cold cranking amp ratings are within specs that should be in a manual, most any battery will crank the engine adequately. I replaced my battery with a conventional automotive type because my dealer is too far and I couldn't find a non-maintenance type with adequate specs that would fit into my Ford 1710.
